Bruuuuce plays I Fought The Law for Joe's b-day

Post by Jimmy Jazz »

Apparently someone held up a sign saying it was Joe Strummer's birthday so Springsteen did I Fought The Law last minute. Shitty quality video but nice hearing Bruce yell out "happy birthday joe" at the end.

Not a Joe song, but that it's a song the band knew and it was fitting given that it was spur of the moment. As always, well done, Bruce.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

He has done some great covers in his career (I Want You, Dream Baby Dream, Quarter to Three, Ballad of Easy Rider to name a few) and this is not one of them. He did it around the same time as The Clash, but was doing more of an homage to the original than a beefed up one for the punk scene. So whatever.

Thank you for clarifying my post, which would have been in error otherwise.

Yeah, but I'd hate to turn into Dr. M. I mean sure, mostly that can be blamed on being Canadian, but we can't rule out the editing thing...
