I wish I could have a GEER thread where these assholes don't bring up Cheapskates and talk shit.

Maybe I should just beat them all to death with a crowbar.

I don't think there is another album that can claim to have three songs in a row that kick as much ass as

Safe European Home
English Civil War
Tommy Gun

Add in the fact that it's an opening three pack - Safe European Home may be the greatest opening track ever.

London Calling and GEER are both superlative albums made by a fantastic band at the height of their power.

Put that in your collective hat and smoke it.

I refuse. Your weak-willed "enjoyment of multiple things" sickens me.

Circumvented! I follow the 0th law, and it is clear that humanity will come to harm if I don't teach everyone of the objective superiority of GEER.

Hello,

Safe European Home is the best opening song - both live and on record.

It certainly can't be accused of lacking one of the best punk rock lyrics in history:

"Like a load of rats on a sinking ship, you slag us down to save your hip
But don't give me the benefit of your doubt, 'cause I'll bite it off and spit it out"
The Clash obviously thought so too until they had London Calling and then Safe European Home became number two in the set list.

London Calling is a great opener too, but I think I'd still go for Safe European Home - that snare smack right at the beginning like a gunshot. It already kicks ass and it's barely a millisecond into the song.

edit: Live, London Calling is the better opener though since SEH live never sounds as good as it does on the album

Hello,

Someone quoted:

"Like a load of rats on a sinking ship, you slag us down to save your hip
But don't give me the benefit of your doubt, 'cause I'll bite it off and spit it out"

I always thought it went:

"Like a load of rats on a sinking ship, you slag us down to SAY YOU'RE hip
But don't give me the benefit of your doubt, 'cause I'll bite it off and spit it out"

Just a different ear, I think.

It says "save your hip" in all the songbooks, but who knows?
