Let's maintain perspective here- who the hell covers Mescaleros tunes?
Pearl Jam did way better than Brooce. Way better. And Pearl Jam sucks.

Ted Leo and that dude from the Foo Fighters, also.
What Mescaleros songs did they cover?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Ted Leo did a Johnny Appleseed/Rudie Can't Fail medley/rendition-thingy once live (it's on YouTube) and supposedly covered Johnny Appleseed multiple times live too and still covers it I think sometimes when he performs (I think, I don't know, I'm not a fan). Don't know about what song Billy means that "the dude from the Foo Fighters" does though.

Chris Shiflett does Burning Lights on his new album, which I guess doesn't quite count, but I'm gonna go ahead and pre-emptively judge and say it has to be better.

Anything is better than constipated grunting.

I like some studio Bruce, but his live music is horrible.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Not always. Live In Dublin with the Seeger Sessions band is actually pretty spectacular. And he's occasionally arranged some songs better live than in studio. Dancing In The Dark and I'm On Fire particularly.

If by spectacular you mean terrible.

I really like the version of Atlantic City on it. There's a few parts where his wife or somebody sings that suck, but as far as Bruce goes, it's pretty solid.

Bruce lost me after he went panning for gold.

Well I agree with you fully. The Atlantic City rewrite is probably the best non-Nebraska version I've heard him do. He did rewrite Johnny 99 on that tour although it ended up reminding me of Dave Matthews Band which left me feeling ill. And yeah, his wife can lay off although I don't mind her harmonies on a few bits.
