Bruce's London Calling

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, 'London Calling' -- New Song

A live version of The Clash's classic call to arms 'London Calling' is the first single from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's upcoming concert DVD 'London Calling: Live in Hyde Park.'

As the staccato riffs of 'London Calling' ring out over a marching drum beat, Bruce spits out the song's lyrics in a raspy but powerful voice: "The ice age is coming / The sun zooming in / Engines stop running / The wheat is growing thin / A nuclear error but I have no fear / 'Cause London is drowning / And I live by the river."

'London Calling: Live in Hyde Park' captures Springsteen's entire June 29, 2008 performance at the Hard Rock Calling music festival in front of 50,000 screaming Londoners. In addition to covering the Clash's rebel anthem, Bruce and the band barrel through a version of Jimmy Cliff's 'Trapped' and several rare fan favorites from their own back catalog, including 'Hard Times (Come Again No More).'

'London Calling: Live in Hyde Park' will be released on June 22. To hear The Boss perform his version of 'London Calling,' check out AOL Radio's Adult Rock station.

The only thing Bruce spits out these days are his teeth.

But good for him that he seems to rediscover good music eventually.

By "spitting out" they must mean pointlessly shouting and over-emoting. Absolutely terrible rendition.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Is it? I haven't heard it yet. I don't listen to dad rock radio.

I heard it when someone posted a link last year, I think it was camera footage from someone in the crowd.

I suppose we'll have to wait 'til 101 appears to get the verdict on the Dad rock radio version. ;)

If you can't handle the boss, get off the dad rock radio.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

He'll only be a grand-dad once I'm done with his daughter.

Aw, jeez. I know Mick's gonna be all proud (as Joe would be) that Bruce has made it a "single" but this is just awful. Makes the Grammy version seem good in comparison. Slow, style-less, vocals even more pinched than his usual latter-day squeezing out a dump. Just, wow.

The youtube video sounds pretty grisly - and one has to wonder how good A Broooooce cover could be at the best of times - but I'm willing to reserve judgment until we actually get the released mix - i.e. not a super compressed and crappy (and is the video audio actually the album mix?) recording of the performance.

Which isn't to say it'll be any good, necessarily.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Well I'm not. It's going to be an unadulterated pile of shite, whichever way it comes out.
