My CD changer has been broken for years, so I listen to a handful of old tapes in the car, most recently a Clash/Cash compilation I made like 15 years ago.
Also, finally got the Sandinista Project CD set a couple of months ago, which rekindled my interest in the original album. Burnt a "Sandinista Stripped" CD which I play pretty regularly now.
Plus, if I don't know what to watch I usually put on either some Elvis or the Passaic show.

Who pfaffed the pfaff? Who got pfaffed tonight?

I originally backed up my collection to an external HD so in Windows it's pretty much the only thing I have easy access to.

I usually play S! once or twice each winter (I've always associated it w/ cold weather, for some reason).
LC gets played a couple of times a year, usually when driving & I need something loud & awesome.
CR gets played about once a year, usually in the fall.
Haven't played S/T or GEER in years - only have 'em on vinyl & I'm too lazy to either put them on the turntable or buy the cds (or buy/steal the mp3s).
CTC got played twice in November of 1985.

Re: Does anyone here actually listen to the Clash anymore?
I probably listen to a handful of clash songs every month, whatever I decide to put on my Mp3 player. The last ting I listened to religiously was the Jaap soundboard and how long ago was that...two years? About 3 or 4 months ago I got out Earthquake Weather. That's probably the last clash/clash-realted album I listened to the whole way through. I listened to "Clampdown" over the weekend. I was playing Devo's "Gates of Steel" and the guitar part reminded me of the intro to "Clampdown" so I took it for a spin. I actually haven't had any clash on my mp3 player in the past monthe or two. I ditched almost everything except a couple of T-rex singles and "Emenince Front" to put the complete discographies of Talking Heads and Oingo Boingo on there.
I spent high school and the first year or so of college obsessing over the Clash. That's a good half decade spending, maybe 70-80% of my listening time with the Clash on. By the end I was only listening to boots. So as Eumaas has said I've paid my dues. One has to grow or die.

I'm so punk, I don't even take my leather jacket off when it catches fire. Which it does frequently, because of how fucking punk I am.

Whether any of us still listen to the Clash or not, we're always carrying them around. You can't help but internalized a beloved band, just as you would a favorite novel. I've never reread If on a winter's night a traveler, but I carry the experience of having read it with me everywhere.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Re: Does anyone here actually listen to the Clash anymore?
Actually, it comes in waves for me. Through the early 90s, I listened religiously. From about 1997-2000, though I still called them my favorite band, it was pretty sporadic. From 2000-2005, religiously. From 2005-present, I rediscover them about once a year and listen to them exclusively for a few weeks, then down to about once a week (like now), then about twice a month until I rediscover them.
But I always leave every studio track from 1977-1979 on my iPod/iPhone/what have you...just in case.

If the clash wasn't important to who we are, none of us would be here. I mean, hell, Wolters are a dime-a-dozen in real life, and I can't throw a stone without hitting a mechanical killing machine.eumaas wrote:Whether any of us still listen to the Clash or not, we're always carrying them around. I strongly suggest you don't throw any stones. A lot of the earlier Flex models have hair triggers on their KILL ALL HUMANS switches.Bankrobber wrote:If the clash wasn't important to who we are, none of us would be here. Great. Can someone please come up with a simple paradox to fry Flex's processors?

I can pass for robot since I'm good with numbers.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Observation: I go through Clash binges a lot more frequently than Bruce binges.
