I always thought this was an interesting combo of the 84 and CTC versions. This is probably the closest to how the CTC version would have been with the band being in charge of the arrangement.
Taking Joe's guitar away was a really ridiculous decision.
I thought he usually looked pretty cool on stage, especially when he carried the mic over his shoulder like a cut-off bazooka! But he does seem a little awkward there, like he doesnt know whether to dance or just strut around the stage. Like that version though, particularly the heavy bass.
Ralph's new book praises the Panza attack of the two Les Pauls but I preferred the Yin and Yang of Joe and Mick. Joe always looked better with a guitar strapped on him too.

The Joe and Mick combo for me too without question, some of Joe's rhythm guitar work is very understated and effective. But I suppose the so called Panzer attack might well have suited certain songs.

It's a fun exercise of hearing what the band would sound like tight and muscular whereas the classic line up as a lot more loose. Less consistent, but some wild highs with the classic lineup
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

he appears to be channelling Jim Kerr at the start. That's never a good thing.

Yes, I think that with the new (old) line-up the band was more relaxed and focused on music

The song was right. "Six months" ain't no sentence. It's a sentence fragment.

I'm guessing this is the version that Joe first heard while in the 101ers. I think it's the first recorded version of the song but who the hell knows. It is pretty great though.

Here's the song that inspired Junco Partner.
