We all like songs. The goal is to like good songs. I think that's where you're stumbling.

Lovers Rock fan signing in. Mick’s guitar work is utterly sublime. Weakest LC track is Koka Kola, though. It is merely pretty good.

"Coming through the door is a snub nose 44, what the barrel can't snort it can splatter on the floor" is one of the best lyrics on the album though. I always felt the last side of the second disc is the weakest, but if they had sequenced them earlier, I might not feel that way.Low Down Low wrote: ↑14 Feb 2018, 5:27amLovers Rock fan signing in. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
I agree with this post. And re Lovers Rock, I used to hate it, but I have grown to kind of love it because rarely to rock stars sing about sexually pleasing women. I still think it's the weakest song on LC, but kind of echoing Wolt, it's still better than most other crap out there.matedog wrote: ↑14 Feb 2018, 12:11pm"Coming through the door is a snub nose 44, what the barrel can't snort it can splatter on the floor" is one of the best lyrics on the album though. Agreed to both points. Indeed, that lyric is beautiful pulp language.matedog wrote: ↑14 Feb 2018, 12:11pm"Coming through the door is a snub nose 44, what the barrel can't snort it can splatter on the floor" is one of the best lyrics on the album though. Re: The Clash observations thread.
It is a great lyric for sure. It’s a fine song in concept too. When I suggest it’s the weakest track on the album it’s merely in the way that one song has to be. Side 3 is the weakest for me in the same way, I can’t find much fault with it at all but in comparing degrees of excellence, it falls just that fraction of an inch short. Train in Vain just about shades it for 4.matedog wrote: ↑14 Feb 2018, 12:11pm"Coming through the door is a snub nose 44, what the barrel can't snort it can splatter on the floor" is one of the best lyrics on the album though.
