Re: Terrible Clash Covers
We Are The Clash is a bit too slow and synth-y to sound too much like Sham 69. And the backing vocals... they're almost out of some science fiction film where a dictator gathers his entire nation into one gigantic auditorium, and they scream out in anguish before he presses the button to have them destroyed by his killer robots.

I hope you don't like the Pist. Nobody should like the Pist.Silent Majority wrote:It's that elegant guitar sound that follows through to Boston Oi! that I especiallly like in the few modern day punk bands that do anything for me.
EDIT: Oh wait, they're from Connecticut, never mind. Either way they still suck.

Re: Terrible Clash Covers
The Clash II sound like Sham 69.
Cheap lousy NME reviews are not truth. They sound fuck all alike oh so "We Are The Clash" has a shouty chorus they sound like Sham 69 ....
Ironically Sham 69 used a drum machine when they reformed later on. Oh they sound like Clash II.
Street punk meets Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

For me it is not the 'songs' that sound the same it is the 'yobbishness' of the vocals.Marky Dread wrote:The Clash II sound like Sham 69.

Re: Terrible Clash Covers
The backing vocals you mean on the chorus. And they don't feature on the whole album."Are You Ready For War" "This Is England" "North and South" "Fingerpoppin'" does not sound like Sham does it.101Walterton wrote:For me it is not the 'songs' that sound the same it is the 'yobbishness' of the vocals.Marky Dread wrote:The Clash II sound like Sham 69.

Maybe "Do It Now" and "We Are The Cash" .....but why the Sham comparison why not "Angelic Upstarts" or "Cockney Rejects"?

The reasons I like Cock Sparrer and dislike Sham 69...Flex wrote:Now there are two bands which are reasonable to liken together musically. Cock Sparrer is better, by my estimation, but Shock Troops ain't exactly worlds apart from Sham 69's oeuvre.Silent Majority wrote:I'm surprised that Heston likes Cock Sparrer, but not Sham 69. They're filed away into the same place in my head.
A) Cock Sparrer had much better tunes and lyrics.
B) Cock Sparrer had much better guitars.
C) Colin from Cock Sparrer had a pretty emotive voice, with a touch of the Steve Marriotts about it. Pursey just sounds yobbish, and has no real tone or inflection in his voice.
D) Jimmy Pursey
