The famous London Calling issue without Train In Vain
The famous London Calling issue without Train In Vain
Hi guys,
my first topic. I just bought few hours ago a copy of London Calling without the famous hidden track at the end of the fourth side. Both vinyls were pressed in England according to the labels. But the sleeve was printed out in Holland.
I am wondering whether the previous owner of the LP changed the sleeve (by mistake or purposely) or whether the very first copies of the London Calling LP that was issued in France was made of a Dutch sleeve and two English vinyls. Second option seems weird but who knows? Maybe some of you know the story?
Thanks for your replies.

Interesting. I wasn't even aware there were copies of London Calling without Train In Vain.

They never bothered adding TIV to any pressings of the album up until the 1999 remasters. Same for all pre-'99 CD pressings.

CBS had loads of the record sleeves printed up in Holland and Train in Vain never appeared on any of the original vinyl album sleeves as it wasn't originally meant to go on the album, it Was supposed to be a flexi disc 7" given away with the NME but it was decided to put it on the album at the last minute and the sleeves had already been pressed up. I'm unaware of any vinyl edition of the album without the track on it, only the sleeve.patrickep wrote:Hi guys,

You mean it wasn't added to the track listing rather than it wasn't added to the pressing?...Rat Patrol wrote:They never bothered adding TIV to any pressings of the album up until the 1999 remasters. Same for all pre-'99 CD pressings.

I've checked at home. I've looked at the different copies I have already. some of them have "Train in vain" mentioned on the label, some have not. But my new copy does not have the track mentioned on the label obviously and does not have the track on the vinyl either.
I assume that the very first copies were pressed without the track. the following had the track but it was not mentioned on the label and the following have the track that is mentioned on the label. To finish with, none of the copies does have the title mentioned on the sleeve. As it was said, the LPs never had the track mentioned on the sleeve.
By the way, I have another "strange" copy of London Calling (bought in Madrid some years ago). A UK copy with inserts printed on both side and the vinyls in black inner sleeves.

Hi Patrick,I have one copy too. It´s the first Dutch one (have a look at the right side of the label, "BIEM/STEMRA").
I´ve ever thought that this is the only pressing without TIV,but that´s not true.
The Italian one doesn´t include it too.
All the Best
