Sub Pop updated McLaren's playbook in many respects, faux subverting and working the hype game while pocketing the cash (and blowing thru it immediately) except Poneman and Pavitt were pranking underground ideals more than rock mythology.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:40pmTypical within seconds some shyster steals my idea!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:39pmMarky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:34pmThink of all the product you could sell with "Sell Out" printed on it.

Reducing it to the level of being comedic always works for me.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:50pmSub Pop updated McLaren's playbook in many respects, faux subverting and working the hype game while pocketing the cash (and blowing thru it immediately) except Poneman and Pavitt were pranking underground ideals more than rock mythology.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:40pmTypical within seconds some shyster steals my idea!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:39pmMarky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:34pmThink of all the product you could sell with "Sell Out" printed on it.

I'm a little harsher toward Sub Pop because the US underground network was kicked around by what happened when Nirvana broke. Not that it was intentional or anything like that, but the unfortunate consequence makes me a little more harsh.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:54pmReducing it to the level of being comedic always works for me.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:39pmMarky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:34pm

They released a lot of great stuff. How they wasted their money is not going to make me love those records any less. But yeah definitely a case of what could've been and where that money could've gone on to support.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 7:59pmI'm a little harsher toward Sub Pop because the US underground network was kicked around by what happened when Nirvana broke. Re: Marky's new remasters thread
Right, of course—good music is good music. But a lot of crappy bands rode the wave and a lot of bands left their scenes for big dollars. Once again, it's the conflict between the individual pleasure that I might get from a band or a song versus an awareness of a greater cultural loss that occurred in the process.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 8:05pmThey released a lot of great stuff. Re: Marky's new remasters thread
I've started to get anxious if I don't check in to this thread every day or so, in case I miss anything. Exhibit 'A' - a completely unexpected Marky box set!
Thanks, as ever Marky - I haven't heard the album in years - just sampling the singles set, and enjoying hearing the vocals on 'Man with the Dogs' properly for the first time.

For now I can say you nailed the remix of Fresh Fruit..., it's always sounded kind of weak/thin/tinny, so much better now.

Cheers Sparky that original mix was very DIY sounding and yes too trebly and thin.Sparky wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 9:50pmThanks Marky! Can't wait to listen to this all the way through tomrrow.Marky Dread wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 1:47pmTwo weeks only then I start to kill the poor.

The rehearsals are still rough and ready as expected but have more clarity now and makes for an interesting listen.
