Combat Rock 40th anniversary reissue coming soon?
Re: Combat Rock 40th anniversary reissue coming soon?
Glynn Johns is a genius. All the Combat Rock tracks were improved from the original versions in Rat Patrol. Except Inoculated City that was cut....but was not his fault...the Space of a vinyl of Course is less than a CD. Needed a double album, but the CBS was not agree.

Mick Jones was the genius. Glyn Johns did very little. The arrangements are Micks. A couple of vocal re-takes and edits do make Johns a genius.
The only tracks that better the Rat Patrol versions are the vocal re-takes. The edits only deprived us of more great inventive music. I don't buy into the idea that the album would've sold less being a double. The album being a double should've also included "This Is Radio Clash".

I mean Glyn Johns is a Genius as a producer. Mick Jones is the Genius as author

That's my point he didn't produce much. Most of the production belongs to Mick also. All Glyn did was shorten some tacks not exactly difficult and then drop a couple a couple of new vocals into the mix again nothing Mick couldn't of done if he felt compelled to.
If you prefer the finished takes after Glyn Johns had edited them that's fine and down to personal preference but all the hard work had been done previously by Mick and the band.

Yes Marky as you say Mick did almost everything. But when i hear Know Your Rights produced by Glyn Johns i leave my hat For him....is an excellent production compared to the one in Rat Patrol and is my favourite Clash song. But maybe i'm wrong, i don't Know the full story about the production of Combat Rock.

Sure the singles work better with the new vocals. But the backing tracks are the same. All the production was already in place from Mick. Johns absolutely butchered "Inoculated City".APACHES67 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2023, 7:53amYes Marky as you say Mick did almost everything.
