Midnight Log appreciation thread

Post by Heston »

No one ever talks about Midnight Log, ever. Seems to be a song no one loves or hates.

Can I go on record as saying I think it's pretty good?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Seconded, too. It's simple, to the point, and has got some great lines that seem apropos in today's climate (such as: "Swallowed by the river/Swollen by the rains/That leakin' ol' computer/Of fingerprints and names"), which has inspired me to play it live a few times. Not a song that everybody knows or references, but one certainly worthy of a second look.

Thirded. Some great lyrics, definitely, that stick in the mind.

A great song, always loved it. But never as much as "Junkie Slip". :shifty:

Quite like it but not as much as The Equaliser or Broadway.

One of the lesser songs. Rhythm is jaunty enough, but I can never remember how it goes and it never really does anything. Plus it's a big come down after POMB.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

It's one of those songs that rewards diving more deeply into a band's catalog. It's a somewhat slight number, but there's pleasure in it if you take the time to enjoy it.

And as the Chairman says, some very nice lyrics.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Just last night I had to drop a midnight log myself.

Impressive. Usually the body stops up in the middle of the night in preparation for morning glory.
