I think GEER is great, but I noticed upon listening again that the production is sort of uneven.
Now that Gene has become an SRP, it's up to me to keep flying the GEER flag I guess. :shifty:
Stick your GEER flag up yer pole. Seriously though if you listen to the production on tracks like The Prisoner/Pressure Drop/(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais etc you can't tell me that GEER would not have sounded better.
I'm not a fan of the production on White Man, I think it's a bit tinny.
I think you are a bit tinny. ;)

Yes that is another way of saying overbearing.
That's an inaccurate characterization of what I said. I mean what I said: uneven. Certain tracks are very beefy, while others lack that touch. Nothing to do with overbearing; rather, I am suggesting that the other tracks sound a bit neglected.
I was just teasing mate I agree about the uneven feel also. However I am in the opposing camp as I feel the other tracks require less Les Paul. The instrumental remix of "Safe European Home" I did from the stems for my All the Peacemakes project has less guitar and yet still retains all the power of the track and in my opinion sounds much better.

Meh, if I wanted that I would just listen to the debut.

Not a comment on the quality of your remix, but rather that I like the sound of GEER.

I don't know really I think the stand alone non album singles are produced really well CC/CCR/WMiHP. Lee Scratch Perry produced CC although the band pretty mch undid most of his work. CCR was produced by Mickey Foote and other than him getting fired by the band for varispeeding the track I think he got a great sound. Then WMiHP was produced by Strummer & Jones and I think all those singles have a different production feel to the first album. I think at this point they could've mixed GEER themselves and didn't really need Sandy.

Great song and arrangement but I don't like the bass sound on it and it has a bit of a harsh trebly sound in general. There is a reason record producers exist.

As it is, though, US S/T is my desert island album. So, you know, splitting hairs.
It's hard not to love it as it has so many great tracks. But I can never get behind it for it being anything more than a compilation and does not tell the story of it's time cohesively. Different production and a band at different stages of their career.
Yeah, I was a 90s kid and got the US S/T first so that's the one seared into my psyche. I'm sure I'd have preferred the UK version if I had heard it first.
