OK here's a thought imagine if Blondie had released Hitsville U.K.(USA) as a single. Sure fire number 1. The Clash = not a pop group.

I'm more worried that ABBA didn't have a conscience. I thought they seemed really nice people.Marky Dread wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 8:04amOK here's a thought imagine if Blondie had released Hitsville U.K.(USA) as a single. Sure fire number 1. The Clash = not a pop group.

The Mikey Dread one is fantastic but nothing else stands out with me from that project. I've actually never heard a tribute album that I even moderately liked and that goes for any artist, not just the Clash. That said, I wasn't in any way disgusted with Chuck Prophet's take on LC.Marky Dread wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 2:46pmSome good takes on that tribute.msza2 wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 1:06pmThe available research supports this conclusion . . .Marky Dread wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 8:04amOK here's a thought imagine if Blondie had released Hitsville U.K.(USA) as a single. I really like the Afghan Whigs version of "Lost in the Supermarket" on the Burning London CD. I like how it uses the drums from Train in Vain.Low Down Low wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 3:39pmThe Mikey Dread one is fantastic but nothing else stands out with me from that project. Re: Clash Songs Ranked
Its not terrible, the backing track and vocals are pretty good but its the lead vocal lets it down for me, just a bit flat and uninspiring. Ultimately it just reinforces what a powerful and underappreciated lead vocalist Mick was in his own right which is the way with a lot of tribute tracks for me.Marky Dread wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 3:43pmI really like the Afghan Whigs version of "Lost in the Supermarket" on the Burning London CD. I saw these guys twice when they were opening for the Living End and was pleasantly surprised that this is part of their set. A nice cover, complete with lap-steel:

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Very nice.
Speaking of lap steel, always loved the lap steel on this:
