Yet you dislike Three Card Trick? This is the kind of irrational insanity I'm talking about.

This is the most we've talked about The Clash in like five years.
Re: The last time you heard CtC.
I like Crooked Beat just fine. I mean it's not good, but it's kinda funny and kinda catchy. The great songs around it somehow elevate it.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: The last time you heard CtC.
Paul has said a number of times that the basslines he came up with would invariably turned into reggae songs by the rest of the band, and that if he had more musical knowhow, he'd have directed them in a more rocking fashion. Now, this song was obviously meant to be a reggae song, so what songs is he talking about? Did he write the music to RAD? Are there other songs that Paul was instrumental in composing that we don't know about?Flex wrote: ↑14 Aug 2017, 3:51pmExtremely glad to see Inder is making my own case in this thread.

Which is interesting, because I think Paul's vocals serve GOB perfectly. But you are absolutely right.101Walterton wrote: ↑14 Aug 2017, 4:27pmThe song is good just that it could have been much better without Paul's vocals.

Re: The last time you heard CtC.
Because I am lazy and can't be bothered to walk downstairs to get the CD or the vinyl I looked up CTC on Spotify.
Couldn't find the album but found a CTC playlist and thought that would do however despite the 62 tracks NONE are actually from CTC!
Interestingly Look Here, Crooked Beat, Mensforth Hill, Red Angel Dragnet, Junkie Slip, Death Is A Star, Atom Tan the kids Career Op' are included.
The one conclusion we can draw is that Heston didn't put that comp together.

Weird, it's easy to find on US Spotify. Does this work?101Walterton wrote: ↑14 Aug 2017, 4:52pmBecause I am lazy and can't be bothered to walk downstairs to get the CD or the vinyl I looked up CTC on Spotify.

According to the Complete Clash song book (which breaks down the writing credits), he is on quite a bit of stuff from 1980 onward.Kory wrote: ↑14 Aug 2017, 4:18pmPaul has said a number of times that the basslines he came up with would invariably turned into reggae songs by the rest of the band, and that if he had more musical knowhow, he'd have directed them in a more rocking fashion.
