Has this new book been discussed here? Just saw this in a Bloomsbury email, claiming it's "the first scholarly work on The Clash" ...

Looks like more student-written sociological claptrap to be honest. That other book, Let Fury Have the Hour springs to mind.

I like the idea of a book that takes the band seriously politically again. Have not read or heard of it until now.

You're shivving me, man.
I only know of Jack Hamilton in that list, but, as I've mentioned in the Reading thread, his recent book on race and 60s rock is exceptional.

Haven't checked, but did this grow out of that recent Clash conference?

That was two or three years ago? If so, that's about right for time between conference, editing papers, and publishing the book.

Can anyone explain the $108 price tag?
I think I've read my fill of books about the Clash aside from any forthcoming homoerotic fan fic.

University press with a limited audience (mostly libraries). The average book put out by a university press sells under 500 copies. I doubt that this one will push more than a couple hundred.

13. Mick Went Disco and Joe Sang Campfire Songs: Punk Afterparties and the Politics of Forking Paths

This one sounds particularly interesting. Always been fascinated by the divergent course of the paths Mick and Joe took post-Clash, seems very fertile ground to explore. Shame about the price tag, though.
