Global a go go is his post-Clash masterpiece imo, though it is an appreciably different record to Streetcore so might seem a bit out there on first listen. Accept the point about the vocal Minstrel Boy, a stunning achievement, but i still love the utter insanity of the 17 or 18 minute album version.
I think it stands easily next to any Clash album (and even better than some).

Prefer it to CR and CTC not in the equation.

It’s the most logical extension of the Clash circa Sandinista of any of the solo projects.

I prefer his vocals on the Mescaleros stuff to some of the Clash. Older Joe would have known exactly how to use his voice on something like Rebel Waltz.

Now I think his vocal on that is perfect.

Brilliant vocal. To be fair are there any real poor Joe vocals he always seemed 100% comitted to me.

Not a damn thing wrong with any part of the song as it exists (apart from the standard S! murkiness). Just Imagine, though, Global era Strummer bringing the weight of his experience and more considered phrasing. And fuck, it, the musicians from the Pogues backing him.

Lightning Strikes always struck me as a bit iffy. Saliva overload and doesn't seem as committed and precise as its sister song, Mag 7.

Okay mate but I don't hear a bad Joe vocal I only hear a cluttered mix.

I tend not to compare Mescalero and Clash era Joe too much, but in mood and execution i definitely see parallels with London Calling, just in how effortless and joyous it all feels, like everybody is in the zone, having a hell of a lot of fun and making sweet things happen. Took me ages to like Gamma Ray and then, eureka, i was listening one day and finally GOT it and could say every note on the record now brings me a whole lot of pleasure. There's a lot of wisdom and maturity on that album, the pay off for a decade and more of pain and soul searching i believe. Tymon was the final, crucial piece of the jigsaw.

I bet a Global A-Go-Go survivor poll would be the most divisive of all of these. It seems like every song has its defenders.

I'd like a solo Strummer one, but we need someone to volunteer to run it. If they wanted to keep their sanity, they should do Mescaleros only.

I'm probably in for it once the BAD polling concludes.
