Re: Strummservations
Pre-Mescaleros solo Joe's heart reached towards his romantic idea of jazz with hands that were formed in the crucible of Chuck Berry. I'm thinking Afro Cuban Be Bop as the main evidence for my thesis.

Re: Strummservations
Forgot that Streetcore had a bunch of handwritten lyrics to Ramshackle Day Parade that are not part of the released song - ala Combat Rock. Quite like this, particularly the ending:
Call out the insect life, from out under the shadows of the kileg lights
Let all the wiretappers step out into the flashgun bulb future bright
Here come the marching band - the band of the underhand
With the bagpipes of the bagmen and they're playing Jimmy Shand
All the showgirls from Tulsa followed by the Powders and the Vultures
And after the deranged cowboys - bring out the banners of Stalingrad
Taking the freight elevators from the incinerators
Come all the hopped up G Men riding refrigerated alligators
All the faces of the civil wars in holograms holding Colt Forty Fours
And the stalled limousines, in the canyons of dreams
Let that be our cavalcade
Call out the insect life, from out under the shadows of the kileg lights
Let all the wiretappers step out into the flashgun bulb future bright
Here come the marching band - the band of the underhand
With the bagpipes of the bagmen and they're playing Jimmy Shand
All the showgirls from Tulsa followed by the Powders and the Vultures
And after the deranged cowboys - bring out the banners of Stalingrad
Taking the freight elevators from the incinerators

Man, I just can't listen to Streetcore. It's too depressing.

These are beautiful lines, just a shame the song never got fully completed. It's still a stand-out on Streetcore for me.drowninghere wrote:Forgot that Streetcore had a bunch of handwritten lyrics to Ramshackle Day Parade that are not part of the released song - ala Combat Rock. I don't know if that's your typo or a misspelling on the actual liner notes, which I don't have within reach, but it should be "klieg" lights.drowninghere wrote:Forgot that Streetcore had a bunch of handwritten lyrics to Ramshackle Day Parade that are not part of the released song - ala Combat Rock. Agreed - but kileg is in the notes (which look handwritten). For what it is work, I had never heard of "klieg" lights either before typing this up yesterday.Wolter wrote:I don't know if that's your typo or a misspelling on the actual liner notes, which I don't have within reach, but it should be "klieg" lights.drowninghere wrote:Forgot that Streetcore had a bunch of handwritten lyrics to Ramshackle Day Parade that are not part of the released song - ala Combat Rock. I mainly only know them from working with VERY old theatre lights in the past.drowninghere wrote:Agreed - but kileg is in the notes (which look handwritten). Wolt used to set them all up with green gels and walk around the theatre pretending to be Frankenstein's monster.Wolter wrote:I mainly only know them from working with VERY old theatre lights in the past.drowninghere wrote:Agreed - but kileg is in the notes (which look handwritten). Whatever happened to the book/ box that was being put together from Joe's personal archive of lyrics and tapes that was being catalogued after he died?

No idea mate. There were/are loads of stuff found after Joe passed and we can only hope it will see the light of day.101Walterton wrote:Whatever happened to the book/ box that was being put together from Joe's personal archive of lyrics and tapes that was being catalogued after he died?

I thought Lucinda was putting it together, I remember there was something on here about it.Marky Dread wrote:No idea mate. Re: Strummservations
There was a guy who made one post about some great stuff being found but he wasn't allowed to say to much. I seem to remember it was all being remixed/remastered.101Walterton wrote:I thought Lucinda was putting it together, I remember there was something on here about it.Marky Dread wrote:No idea mate.
