I did. It was outstanding, to say the least. I hope you can check them out when they come back around.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑03 Sep 2017, 11:32pmNah, and they just played First Avenue last Aug. 29th, dammit. Too much non stop fuckery with trying to sell and clear out my dad's house. Did you see them?Kory wrote: ↑03 Sep 2017, 9:09pmYou know I'm with you on loving this band. I agree it just sounds like it was likely a last-minute decision to cover—Rob might even just be playing it from (admittedly cloudy) memory. I can't remember, did you get to see them on this tour?muppet hi fi wrote: ↑31 Aug 2017, 8:18pmYeah, I take your points. But Hirst and Topper are two very different drummers (though Hirst can swing as well as Topper). Topper's drum fills are as catchy as any of the other hooks in the song, so, yeah, I wish Rob had played them. Seems maybe they didn't practice it much. Oh well, I still dig it.

And Rob Hirst can play circles around Topper in his prime.

You almost got through two screens before I noticed and rolled my eyes.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑31 Aug 2017, 5:56amI think it's very good. The ending is a bit curt, but the Oils are capable of capturing the mood, might, ambiance and spirit of the Clash live probably better than anybody, even Springsteen.

I was round my Springsteen obsessive mate's house on Saturday and I relented on putting on his DVD of Bruce's 2009 (?) Hyde Park show. Useless cover of London Calling.

To be fair, we also watched the Dublin Show of the Seeger band (whiskey was involved) and that made me wanna pick up the acoustic guitar and bash at it. Completely different performer away from the spaceless E Street Band.

I still haven't watched it yet. I keep forgetting.

Fair point but to miss the "drowning" bit out is to lose the pay off line that the whole song hangs on. Just a bit shoddy I thought.Kory wrote: ↑09 Sep 2017, 10:49pmAlso let's not forget that Joe forgot his own lyrics regularly.muppet hi fi wrote: ↑31 Aug 2017, 6:25amSay what?
