Yowza. Sounds like something CK could have written.

Not once, in all their ever dwindling albums, did the Clash mention Ireland, touchstone of the embryonic English conscience.
Back home the buses went up in flashes
The Irish tomb was drenched in blood.

That article was nothing. A tiresome example of enacting attitudes. There's a great case to be made against (and maybe a greater one to be made for) Joe but this wanker never got near it. To talk of "great sins" in a world of Perry Como's and Pussycat Dolls is retarded. Looking to rock 'n' roll for any kind of real-world solution is pissing into the wind. Once you accept the Clash for what they, and all other performers, were and are then they are much easier to swallow. They made good music, great music, and to ask for any more is endearingly silly. Their myth's cool. Probably better than the reality. It's much too easy to condemn a dead man who tried his hardest. It's baffling to hold the Sex Pistols up as anything more than a damn fine rock 'n roll band that hasn't turned into everything they claimed to believe.

Coward? Perhaps in his personal dealings, but that's none of my or yours business. But in music Joe held mostly true to his own integrity and vision. He tripped a few times, but human's make human error and the hardest thing to do is to actually know your own mind when surrounded by sycophants and nostalgists. Thus Earthquake Weather, and how shit that is. All I know is Joe Strummer, when he had the right kind of vision, is my favourite rock 'n' roll vocalist. The rest is irrelvant.

Very, very well said.

Joe sang standard Oi? How did the writer come up with that conclusion.

I think he meant in sentiment if not actual music style. I actually think this sort of betrays an ignorance of the Oi!/skinhead scene too, which had a diverse range of political sentiments.

Is this twat just upset that The Clash didn't write "Alternative Ulster" or maybe Stiff Little Fingers should have written "London's Burning" yeah we all know Joe Strummer had his failings just like Punk in general but these are the very things that adhere us to him that human quality he cared about people. I met Joe twice long after The Clash split and wanted to ask him about music and The Clash etc.. but all Joe was interested in was talking about me and what I was doing in my life.

Wow, this guy is a horribly pretentious asshole. I'd love to beat the living shit out of him with a brass statue of the Buddha.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

That enforces my view of him as a people person, and that act i worth more than the article's jaundiced views.

I've a lovely cast iron one that you can use to do that job, you can have it anytime, ...these articles are just used to stir, playing the devils advocate for people wth strong sentiments to the individuals they are slinging mud at, I've heard of Joe Strummer and what he did and what he stood for, have not heard of this web publication, if it were actually a printed news paper / Magazine it would undoubtedly find its way into my toilet so I could wipe my big hairy arse with it, looking at the article it's credited to the Exile Team, obviously they are part of the problem and not part of a solution or cure, ....as you were x

It's cool to be contrary these days (and maybe it always has been). It's like music geeks who like to tell the world that the Beatles were not really that important.
