I'd put it as the third best song on the album, but I'm probably not in the majority on that opinion.101Walterton wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 3:53pmAgreed. I am one of the 7,000 who bought on release with great fanfare at Tower records. I wouldn’t give it 8/10 and why go with Rude Your Donkey ( never liked it) over one of Joe’s songs?
NEW JOE STRUMMER ANTHOLOGY?
Re: NEW JOE STRUMMER ANTHOLOGY?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

She really does.Marky Dread wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 2:09pmYep he comes across as a complete hatchet man. No wonder Luce has avoided the public eye for these years, avoiding pseudo wankers like the reviewer and his penny-dreadful psychoanalysing.

It’s top 4 for me, behind Island Hopping, Dizzys Goatee and Sikorsky Parts. On the cassette version when you flipped over after IH it brought you almost exactly to the start of RYD which I thought was pretty neat in the pre-shuffle days.matedog wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 4:23pmI'd put it as the third best song on the album, but I'm probably not in the majority on that opinion.101Walterton wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 3:53pmAgreed. I'm with you bro, at least there's some melody there. I'd only put Shouting Street, Island Hopping and Sleepwalk above it.matedog wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 4:23pmI'd put it as the third best song on the album, but I'm probably not in the majority on that opinion.101Walterton wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 3:53pmAgreed. Cool stuff. That Czechoslovak This Is England is weird. I'm curious about the timeline on that one because I don't think there are any live versions with those lyrics.

Mick was either AWOL or had just been booted out.

I like the "where is England" line as opposed to "This Is England". Cool to have.Heston wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 10:13amAug 1983 according to this...

Nick's not listed, which I guess makes sense given the timeline, though he's also not listed on the other This Is England demo from 84. Crazy to think there was probably some overlap of Joe writing TIE and Mick still being in the band.Heston wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 10:13amAug 1983 according to this...
