Also
John Lydon as Paul Simonon
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Moments like these, I wish I were an insane zillionaire so that I could make this happen.

An image of fat, sixty something Lydon dressed in Jackson Pollock overalls complaining about singing a verse about pensions in Career Opportunities is dancing across my cranium.

I still don't understand why they cast someone who is pushing 40 to play 1977 Joe.
they should recast Joe as Steve Buscemi
YES THEY SHOULD

The RAR clip looks like bad CGI. And Rhys Meyers doesn't look or sound anything like Joe. As expected, I know the subjects way too well to not get annoyed by this.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Dont normally dismiss films on the back of 2 minute trailers but this one can go and kiss my balls. It's the same as when they made London Calling one of the anthems for the 2012 Olympics, the message bears no relation to what it's supposed to convey and they don't give a shit because the mass of modern consumers will just lap it up unthinkingly anyway. The fact they enlisted a heartthrob actor to play Strummer told you all you needed to know in the first place. If Meyers possessed even a shred of professionalism or ambition, he'd have done a Day Lewis or a De Niro on it and had half his teeth kicked in before filming. That attempt at a Strummer snarl is about the most pathetic thing I've seen in a film, ever. Lame-ass acting for a lame-ass film.
