Re: The US 2008 Election thread

I'm so punk, I don't even take my leather jacket off when it catches fire. Which it does frequently, because of how fucking punk I am.

Even Francis Fukuyama is supporting Bill Ayres—I mean, Obama—for president. The Koran and Das Kapital for everyone!

One of the most ivory towered myopic arguments I've ever read. In retrospect, it should have killed his career, but I guess in academia there are always second chances as long as you can generate grant money.eumaas wrote:Ugh, his original thesis is so fucking stupid.Wolter wrote:Well, history did end, after all.Dr. Medulla wrote:Even Francis Fukuyama is supporting Bill Ayres—I mean, Obama—for president. Well, remember that a common phenomenon of academia is the appearance self-perpetuating bullshit vortices, where people who have never spent a moment of their adult lives outside of a University theorize and debate about issues they have never experienced firsthand.Dr. Medulla wrote:One of the most ivory towered myopic arguments I've ever read. Which encourages them to think that the public is so dumb that there's no point in writing general audience books.Wolter wrote:Well, remember that a common phenomenon of academia is the appearance self-perpetuating bullshit vortices, where people who have never spent a moment of their adult lives outside of a University theorize and debate about issues they have never experienced firsthand.Dr. Medulla wrote:One of the most ivory towered myopic arguments I've ever read. Re: The US 2008 Election thread
I think I've read/seen a few interviews where Fukuyama is fairly repentant about his End of History thesis. If nothing else, he comes off as a lot more thoughtful now than he did a decade ago.

He was one of the first (and few) neocons to publicly state, "We were wrong." There's some honour in that, I guess, albeit on a sliding scale.Flex wrote:I think I've read/seen a few interviews where Fukuyama is fairly repentant about his End of History thesis.
