I said it before, I'll say it again- this country was created by European corporate interests from day one. They allowed the illusion of autonomy for a little while, but now their investment has matured and they are carving us up and taking it all back. We see the rival rebel tribal stomp going on in the GOP and the Dems acting like the usual submissive librarians but the charade isn't going to change the facts. Economically, it's the heartland- whom the corporate elite see as overpaid and obsolete troublemakers- that are taking it on the chin. The whole red state/blue state nonsense is just a convenient way to dismember the Republic when the time comes, which it definitely will in our lifetime (most of the blue states were solid Republican in the Reagan years and before). The Northeast and Northwest and Lake states will split off and will join with Canada. It's possible that California will be split and SoCal, Arizona and NM will incorporate into Mexico.

There was a book that came out in the early 80s by a guy named, I think, Garreau called something like The Nine Nations of North America, that posited a break up of Canada and the US along resource and cultural lines. I read it maybe fifteen years ago, and can't recall how well reasoned it is.

You guys are overlooking the obvious ruthless logic of the Blue/Red split. You split off the major metropolitan areas with all their troublesome busy-body liberals with a contentious national divorce, maybe even with some border skirmishes here and there to really piss everyone off. And you have that huge pool of resources that can be mercilessly exploited with the full blessing of the Red citizenry. Drilling, strip mining, clear cutting, factory farming, sweatshops everywhere- and all the libs on the coasts saying good riddance, you made your bed. The middle of America becomes essentially a Third World producer economy- no unions, no worker protections, no environmental protections. The first time I saw that Blue/Red map I said to myself- "they're using that as a blueprint for splitting up the country." My guess? Red states retain the USA name, the Blue/Canada thing becomes the North American Union or something like that, probably under the aegis of a souped up Commonwealth. They did it to the USSR- why do you think it couldn't happen here?

In my opinion, we are never more that a few weeks away from any sort of purge or pogram. These visions you guys are talking about sort of fit into the same mold. It's one of those things that seems only to need a spark, some sort of flashpoint.
