And yet when I say one South American is the same as the next, I get accused of being insensitive and a racist. That shit is unfair.

Lots of rumblings about his silence during the Dirty War (and no, that's not a euphemism for Hoy's Bruceling fantasies).

Plus rumors about what happened during that whole "lost weekend" at Hitler and Eva's beachfront villa in Santa Cruz back in the 60's. :shifty:

Amidst all the celebrating that he is first Pope since Gregory the Great* (a Syrian) in the 700's that isn't a European, is the fact that Francis I is the son of an Italian immigrant to Argentina. So it satisfies everyone...a white Italian South American.

On the plus side, he seems like a humble guy...so far. He refused to live in the Church Palace as a Buenos Aires Cardinal, rode the bus everyday to the Diosies and didn't have servants. Maybe he will be a less monarchical Pope, though the office has a way of corrupting people.

EDIT: *Whoops, it was Gregory III who was from Syria
I'm so punk, I don't even take my leather jacket off when it catches fire. Which it does frequently, because of how fucking punk I am.

From the job interview …
Q: Sir, how does your experience with disappeared children prepare you for covering up the molestation of children?
A: Loyalty to an institution has given me the strength to ignore all kinds of horrors, so I think this is a skill that is transferrable from situation to situation.

People recording stuff is baaaaaaad.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
