You know, Palin's what did it for me. After McCain picked Palin is when I really decided to vote (Obama). Apparently that's true of some consies as well.

Also, I think Obama is potentially the first president in a long time to be genuinely "thoughtful" about issues. Well, possibly BIll Clinton was. But you have to go pretty far back to find another one before that. Whether I agree with him or not (I suspect I will rarely agree more than partially with his actions), it's nice to have the feeling that he at least has well-reasoned motives for his actions, not the knee-jerk ideologically driven BS championed by Bush and most Repukes (and Dems for that matter).

I'll be voting for Obama. His age, his race, and his education add up to something good for me. He's just different and new which is what we really need right now.Wolter wrote:Yeah.eumaas wrote:You know, Palin's what did it for me. Re: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin
The difference between Obama and Clinton, I suspect, is that the latter was rather immature and needy, not in control of his emotions. Obama strikes me as a guy who knows he's hot shit but also knows that he doesn't have to have constant validation of that point (like Clinton).Wolter wrote:Yeah.eumaas wrote:You know, Palin's what did it for me. No, you're right. I should have been more clear in my presentation. Piltdown's creators almost certainly did it for money, but the reason it remained unchallenged for so long in even the scientific community was that it validated certain assumptions about the superiority of the "white race."Dr. Medulla wrote:I thought Piltdown was just a money-making hoax. Okay, I see. It's all so silly. The superiority of whites is proven by the fact that Adam and Eve and Jesus were all white. Look at the pictures. D-fucking-uh.Wolter wrote:No, you're right. Sarah Palin, proud defender of the First Amendment. No, how does that amendment go again …?

Re: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin
I'm not too keen on Alaska law but if it is the same as Massachusetts then she would be the one to pick Steven's replacement should he have to resign. I suppose she could pick herself and thus remain in the national spotlight. I don't know about her future but I her pick will probably be viewed as killing McCain's chances by pandering in the wrong direction. If McCain spoke like he did while conceeding last night throughout the campaign and picked a centrist woman (Whitman perhaps) I think he would have won.eumaas wrote:She's extremely popular with the rabble. Re: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin
Stevens has been called on by McConnell to resign, I guess hedging that the Senate would refuse to seat him in Jan. (which it can do if 60+ members vote him down). If he resigns, a special election has to happen within 90 days. Palin makes the call on whether an interim replacement goes in or if the seat stays vacant for the 90 days. And she can most definitely appoint herself for the temp fill-in and give herself 90 days of incumbency. So if Stevens timed a resignation with the start of the new Congressional session and Palin got 90 days of prime time nat'l exposure in the Senate during a new session she would have a big leg up for a Spring special election timed near the end of Obama's first 100 days in office (which no prez. ever lives up to the hype to because it's total media-fueled overinflation). So that's the scenario where this process can be perverted. She would take a hit from the brazen opportunism and collusion with Stevens on the timing, but that's a hedge on whether it would stick nationally to 2012 and outweigh the upside of the constant national exposure, and whether it would burn Alaskans immediately before the special election. I'd say chances of the latter diminished with the fact that they so enthusiastically re-elected dead men walking in Stevens and Don Young and generally embracing her attention whoredom while the rest of the country recoils at it. But I think we'll probably know within weeks which way the winds lean there. I guarantee she has no problems doing it...this election was all about 2012 for her to begin with. It just depends on what the party's recommendations are after crunching the post-election feedback on the risks.BostonBeaneater wrote:I'm not too keen on Alaska law but if it is the same as Massachusetts then she would be the one to pick Steven's replacement should he have to resign.
