Oh, definitely—his actions freely made as a member of the clergy, especially its upper hierarchy, are far more damning. But in the context of the fascist resurgence, his Hitler Youth connection resonates more.

My mother was a young woman in the Netherlands during the war. She's not completely irrational about it, but she definitely still harbours resentment and mistrust towards Germans. I cut her some slack even as I tell her she's not being fair to those who weren't even born at the time. Parents …
