Of late, I've seen a lot of liberals on Twitter blaming Republicans for police brutality, but Chicago has been a Democratic fiefdom for nearly a century, and they've definitely done fuck all to reign in the brutality.

Re: Police Misconduct: Tracked
To kind of add to this. I met with a woman today who wants to do a march for women. Which is fine, I guess, but she was such a tone deaf Boomer that I had a hard time taking her seriously. She complained that "the black women" told her they didn't want to take part and she didn't understand why. I said, "do you think that maybe it's because, let's say, if they are a victim of intimate partner violence, they can't go to the police for help without risking putting themselves in a further vulnerable position?" She replied, "but I'm profiled too every time I walk down the street!" She meant it in the sense of sexual harassment, which is obviously abhorrent, but she was just so dripping with privilege that I couldn't deal. She then, OF COURSE, threw in the whole "and these kids today with their twitters and faceplace they don't March like we did in the 60''s!!!" I was like, have you been paying attention? It ain't the boomers in Feruson. And then she went off on some tangent basically saying that people get cancer because they don't eat healthy. Of course, that can be part of it, but a lot of other people, like my dad for fuck's sake who was in great shape and had one surgery his whole life in 1958 for a baseball injury gets pancreatic cancer...she said, "oh, but he's an outlier." Maybe, but fuck you for saying that. Basically this was a shit day, and then some asshole was an asshole at the fucking dog park. Ugh. PATRIARCHY.Flex wrote:Jeebus, quite the story Mrs. B.

Semi-recently, I saw a proposed idea that cops be required to carry malpractice insurance, paid out of their own pocket, like doctors. Dealing with insurance companies when it comes to being sued rather than having the county or state pay off your abuse of power might well be a means of imposing self-control on cops. But as state agents, would that even be allowable? That is, could someone on the public dime be required to pay for insurance against misdeeds?

Isn't it lovely to work in a profession where you can show up hung over to work, crash your car, and by power of the magic words "Shots fired! Shots fired!" have a puncher's chance of getting out of a sticky situation by creating a diversion that locks down an entire 3-town radius for the day with heavy artillery?
Also...apparently in exurban Massholia they don't even bother with the whole "graduate from the Academy" thing before handing them their badge and weapon and sending them out unsupervised.

Could also go in the SC thread, but, yeah, this is more police (or rent-a-cop) thuggery. Are you enough of a goon to toss a teenage girl around a classroom?
