a beautiful religion

I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Indian temples are regularly hit by stampedes, as huge crowds of Hindu devotees flock to make offerings at festival times.

There have been at least three fatal stampedes in the country so far during 2008, although the numbers killed were far smaller than in the latest incident.
Compare that to the batshittery going on in Canada because of the bus murder: people wanting metal detectors, pat down searches, fearful of getting on buses now, calls for a quick execution of the killer. So, a freak occurrence has people over-reacting, yet people continue to flock to festivals where people are not irregularly killed. Which is crazier?

Bingo. "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic" or rephrased: a single death is a major crisis and a million deaths is a fact of life.

I think India needs to introduce McTemples--fast religion if you will. That'll reduce the stampede factor.

Norman Mailer, among others I'm sure, made the point that four or five times the number of people who died in the 11 Sept attacks die in automobile accidents each year, yet there are no calls to do something—anything—to make road travel safer. But people were screaming to have their dignity increasingly abused for the illusion of safer air travel. Perspective, people …

I saw a clip not too long ago about the growing phenomenon of drive-thru churches in the US. Basically, it's a toll booth where you make your donation and receive acknowledgement that, yep, Jesus loves you. They're really counting on the Son of God being pretty damn gullible.

It would give Christianity credibility (in my eyes) if they would accept that Jesus was not the son of God and was a remarkable but mortal human being.

If he can turn water into wine (especially organic, biodynamic and kosher--preferably vintage dated and preferably red--though whites and roses work seasonally) then I have a business opportunity for Mcjesus
