Not that Gawker didn't have its problems, but all in all its ignominious end is pretty much Not A Good Thing.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

It was a net positive site for commentary and snark. Certainly some unseemly choices in the past, but getting sunk like that ain't good.

I'm not sure how all the sites bound up legally, so does this mean that Deadspin and Jezebel are also kaput?

edit: I see that only Gawker is being shuttered. Could be worse … depending on what changes are instituted at the others.

I doubt they'll really, truly be gone because the traffic it generated was just too good. Univision already said there'd be no layoffs and that staff would be transferred within the company. That means there'll be a site exactly like Gawker promptly launched. It just won't be called Gawker, because that name is tainted beyond usefulness.

They had to kill it in order for it to live. That's all this amounts to.

The average ostrich egg could make an omelet that feeds 22 people. Ask him how many people his egg-shaped dome could feed.

I have always wanted to try a soft boiled ostrich egg. The yolk in a chickens egg is never big enough.

There's something hilarious, pathetic, and sad (hipathsad?) that this had to be done: http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/ ... lls-228836
