How progressive! In Massachusetts sorority houses are still banned because they're harems of witches.

His legacy lives on!
That's the frat that tried to recruit me.
You could have had so many daughters and their moms. At the same time!
In ODU's defense, frats are not nearly as big a deal there as they are at my new university, UNC-Chapel Hill.

Came across this piece:

Thought some might want to read it.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Yeah, I've come across that before. Really sinister shit. Back in the 50s, there was a push against secret societies (especially in high schools) in the name of anti-Communism. Democracy meant openness and free association; Communism represented secrecy and cults and demeaning rituals of loyalty. Or so the argument went. I don't disagree with the assertion that the Greek system runs counter to democratic civic values and encourages social stratification that can be carried on post-college. Which is why they'll never get rid of it.

That's the first piece I've seen that really digs into why frats are so entrenched in the American university system. Cui bono, right?

That's really interesting about anti-Communism getting directed toward secret societies. Didn't the Birchers help revive anti-Masonry?

The only thing keeping "troubled men" from going into women's washrooms is this law, people. Remove that protection and the troubled will run rampant!

This is another example of the right's concerted retreat from intellectual discourse for the past several decades: any argument they put forth for their position now rests on dumb appeals to emotion (chiefly fear). The purposeful self-labotomy means one can't even respectfully disagree with them, because their behaviour doesn't merit respect.

Jesus fucking Christ, if Lance Berkman knew how to read, he would know that a trans person is far more likely to be harmed in a restroom than the cis person. I'd much prefer my son share a restroom with a trans person than this asshole.

Is that a pro-life shirt? Because my reaction was "using guns to shoot fetuses seems pretty win/win"
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Aging feminists sure do hate young women, huh? (Or maybe being on Maher's show just drags everyone down to his dumb-ass level.)

First wave feminists can be so awful and clueless. They're boomers, after all.
