None of this would have happened if the gnostics hadn't lost the fight to determine the course of Christianity.

Fucking pussy-assed Gnostics. If I had been at Nicea the bible would have had a hell of a lot more ninjas in it.

The early battles for the nature of Christianity just show how powerful the authoritarian impulse is.

Also, the paucity of face-kicking action in early Christian theology.

The records are spotty at best. I'd like to think that some of those gnostics who went east came back with some mean moves. You've gotta figure that some of those scrolls contain drawings of nun-chucks.

Sweeping generalization that I only partly subsribe to: the Judeo-Christian-Moslem axis of Western Religion has too many seeds of assholism to fully exonerate any branch.

Of course. No group ever monopolizes the white or black cowboy hats. But they have the advantage of having lost and been demonized for it, and so they benefit from any what if games.

allowing rainbow cult to alter marriage, to suit its needs in the process, is 100 times more radical than allowing the DH in baseball.

how's a marriage consummated?

i really don't want to hear some old queen wanting a divorce because he was promised...
...and his young male bride? won't put out.

settle for civil unions.
Why should they have to "settle" for anything less than whatever they want? That's just bigotry. The percentage or number of folks is completely irrelevant, it's certainly not a "cult" of any sort and allowing same-sex couples to marry isn't at all radical because 'marriage' is just a word, a term (and a religious one at that, as to which the government should not be concerned), and particularly it isn't at all radical if you, we, the government is willing to give same-sex couples the exact same rights vis-a-vis civil unions. Consummation has been merely an excuse for divorce, not an true issue, for many decades, if not centuries. Pleading irreconcilable difference is generally sufficient these days.

Marriage is a civil contract in the States. You sign a marriage certificate, a state document. Doesn't need any ceremony at all: religious, pagan or pastafarian.
Damn for a minute there I thought I might not be married in the States.

These days many have a friend get ordained (on-line) with the universal church of life or similar to conduct the marriage ceremony, but perhaps only to satisfy the religious urgings of parents/relatives. A judge can do it too down at the courthouse.

I can perform marriages and the like. All I ask is money for a snazzy priest outfit.

Also a jewel encrusted golden pope hat if you can manage it.
