I agree that the compulsory "civilian national security force" is an unsettling and harmful idea, but this is just a lot of hyperbole.

Of course, the same website also hosts this sane and reasoned piece against Obama-Antichrist hysteria:

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

The 2nd article was stupid, I didn't even waste my time reading it all.

However, the first one I think is spot on, not the hyperbole that you say. There are a lot of similarities with what has happened in other countries in our past with what is said is going to happen here, a sort of Liberal Fascism if you will.

Stupid? How so? Obama is the Antichrist, then?

I'm quite unsettled by the "Yes we can!!!111" enthusiasm that seems to have my generation by the balls. The Bush administration, rather than turning people against authoritarianism, has just soiled one brand of it. Its competitor retains great vigor. That said, despite the ridiculous enthusiasm, I'm not seeing a drastic change from the status quo. Obama has won the support of the left-liberals, but seems a pragmatist to me. See his various capitulations or the "team of rivals" talk about his cabinet picks.

As far as Liberal Fascism, I'm a supporter of the idea that fascism is genetically left rather than right, but Goldberg's work isn't all that good. I agree that progressivism is pernicious, but it's also firmly embedded in Republican politics now too. The Republicans had the opportunity to scale back state intrusion and promote the idea of limited government, and they didn't. Why's that? I think it's the influence of neoconservatism on the one hand (having its origins in the secular progressives) and the religious right on the other (originating in the Christian left, i.e. religious progressivism). Both are propelled by bright-eyed believers intent on remaking the world, individual liberty be damned. No thanks.
