The Klan is pretty much a social club. Metzger doesn't have much to do with the traditional Klan.

Do not make the mistake of assuming these racists to be stupid. Their worldview is skewed, but much of the leaders exhibit a high degree of sophistication. Totalitarianism often attracts intellectuals.

The Klan is pretty much a social club. Metzger doesn't have much to do with the traditional Klan.

I've spent time on far-right email lists doing research and some of these guys are pretty impressive.

EDIT: not that I think their premises and conclusions are at all valid, just that they can show a degree of sophistication that impresses me from a formal point of view.

Sophistication is a relative thing. I obviously find left-libertarian cranks like me more sophisticated. But in relation to mainstream political thinking, they display the same degree of sophistication I think.
