God, that's depressing.
He went AWOL, then turned himself back in. He got a mental health referral for a discharge from a mental health specialist that worked for the Army, but not much in the way of assistance — though everyone he talked to, from the psychiatrist to the chaplain, seemed to want to give him pills. He didn’t want to go on pills, in part because his suicide attempts had been with pills, but he seemed to have to explain this over and over again to the same people until it was like talking to a brick wall.
This may be a stupid question, but if this is how soldiers are dealt with in the field, what exactly does the country plan to do for the tens of thousands of soldiers that served their country when/if they return home from this war? Besides letting perfectly informed rational individuals make perfectly informed rational decisions and pop pills, I mean.

If they plan to do the same as the UK, that would be fuck all then, nearly 10% of the UK prison population are ex-services and that's going to increase over the next few years. As far as the forces are concerned they've served their purpose and now they can fuck off back to whatever deprived area they came from and resume the lifestyle that made them want to join up in the first place :hmph:
