Typical of the guy, tho, is that he didn't actually participate in baseball operations decisions. He was the public face of ownership, promoting the team and being the good ol' boy.

I've also never actually met a Rays fan (not counting that half-assed semi-fandom I personally agreed to at the beginning of the year). Of course, I'm sure to meet plenty soon enough.

I was until about age 6 when we moved away from Dallas. I grew up in a city without a baseball team (well, until 1993)...wait, we had a great minor league team, the Denver Bears. Tim Raines played for them.

His stolen base totals for his first few seasons were absurd.

I think it was Raines who admitted during the cocaine scandal that he always slid in head first so he wouldn't break the vial of powder he kept in his back pocket.

God, I love him.

Raines was awesome.
