Chatting with a student after class—he constantly wants to engage me on the Trump investigation—I suggested that this really is the proof of whether there's even a semblance of function in the US justice system. There's an investigator who, by all appearances, is methodically building a case of collusion/obstruction. There are targets of the investigation who are, to be polite, utter amateurs and wholly corrupt. According to a civics textbook, the end result should be obvious. What's the reality, tho?

If Kennedy's retiring this summer, it's with the full knowledge his retirement will be used as a wedge issue to activate republican turnout that would otherwise be depressed. Fuck him.
