associating with Rahm seems like a mistake to me. Not yo mention that 2006 was a very different context from today. There's been an economic collapse between then and now for one.
The populist wind, left and right, suggests RE would be more likely to replicate the disaster of 2016 than the victory of 2006. One negative aspect of Trump being such an incompetent is that allows the Democrats to think that they can treat 2016 as an aberration and not alter their focus at all, to just wait for the electorate to snap out of it. But, as Flex said, if his participation is limited to nuts and bolts stuff, that's not horrible.
But it's not nuts and bolts, because Rahm IS horrible...full-stop. It absolutely is because the party would rather ratfuck progressives than win general elections: http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/201 ... -idea.html

The irony being, of course, that she was the most Nixonian candidate since the dark master himself: http://wtnh.com/2017/05/26/clinton-comp ... lma-mater/

You'd have a hard time convincing me otherwise that losing that election was the best thing that could happen to her reputation. From "hold your nose" candidate to martyr who already enjoys what-if-JFK-lived scenarios amongst Democrats.

Trump is like Nixon in a critical way Clinton is not: he can win presidential elections.

Both parties have fully morphed into a totalitarian mindset whereby they have done nothing wrong and a contradictory reality must mean reality is wrong.

"A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages" is supposed to be the new Dems slogan.

So, a not-so-clever reference to FDR in the title and a more significant reference in the subtitle to Bill Clinton, who, with Reagan, worked to reverse the spirit and structures of the New Deal.

The Democrats will gain seats in 2018—the party out of power almost always does, plus Trump is going to hurt a lot of Republican candidates—but the DNC is going to conclude it was their commitment to neoliberalism. Yuck.

Honestly, there is actually a case to be made for supporting pro-life Dems occasionally. It's a Harry Reid situation: he was technically pro-life but the party position was so firm he consistently voted the pro-choice positions most/all of the time anyways. Poaching a few seats in red states with pro-life dems probably does more to protect female autonomy than jettisoning those seats to republicans. But there's, what, a few of these seats AT MOST in congress? Where the area is culturally conservative but economically liberal enough that a conservadem could win? That just doesn't seem to happen much anymore. Still, you could fund those folks on a case-by-case basis. but just say "the democratic party is the pro-choice party. the end" without jettisoning the commitment to the position at the highest levels. I mean, jesus christ.
