If there were still any doubt, Biden's pursuing the Trump strategy of flat-out lying. No finessing or wiggling, just straight lying.

i watched most of the climate town halls (which was actually surprisingly good and substantive) and Joe was easily the most awful person of the whole event. To the point where I felt deeply uncomfortable watching him. I think he's genuinely getting very confused, it's sort of hard to see.

Of the core batch of eight(?) left, I seriously think Biden's the one guy who definitely would lose to Trump. Where Trump's base love him for his charlatanism, I fear that Biden would alienate enough idealists on the leftish side and centrists motivated by that most centrist of qualities, competence. He's Hillary but senile.

That's a bit harsh given that Warren is only a couple points behind both as the second choice—a statistical tie, really. What it suggests to me is that it's more of a recognition thing going on, and that because Biden, Sanders, and Warren have dominated the media buzz, people are defaulting to those who have been talked about as being most electable.

the evidence that the bulk of support for sanders comes from a commitment to socialist revolution is pretty weak, I guess is my more measured point. It's a point that the Sanders Movement people don't want to hear at all, but I think it has pretty serious implications both for Sanders personal success as well as the viability to turn his specific support into a broader movement for socialism and it pains me that the dirtbag left/jacobin/our revolution folk mostly accuse people of raising this concern of being Secret Capitalists or whatever.

on the one hand, the inability to roll with a single, mild jab that gets at a serious issue that voters care about (namely, Biden's aged decrepitude leading to his brains dribbling out his mouth every time he speaks) should be a massive red flag that he's going to be utterly destroyed by Trump in the general. On the other hand, the "civility lecturers" are probably mostly speaking from a cynical calculus recognizing that if you stigmatize criticism of fellow candidates the biggest beneficiary will be the centrist, establishment-favored front-runner who can skate through the primary with minimal pushback from fellow candidates until it's too late.

Like it or not, you gotta unseat the king from the throne. That requires landing some punches that will actually make people change their support from him. It necessarily means tearing him down. If folks aren't okay with that, why the fuck do we have primaries at all? Let's just annoint the incoherent, rambling geriatric with bloodily explosive body parts to go lose to Trump right now and save us all the brainpower and energy.

I also like the article's larger point that the opposition to Trump requires a real, decisive anti-racist candidate and Biden is absolutely not up to that task.
