I love all of the people blaming this on the refugees. These are the people the refugees were fleeing from.
And did anyone see Newt Gingrich's gem of a tweet? "Imagine a theater with 10 or 15 citizens with conceal carry permits. We live in an age when evil men have to be killed by good people." Yes. More guns would have solved the problem, asshole.

I'm not sure a pistol really stacks up against a Kalashnikov, Newt.

Meanwhile, YouTube videos claiming this is a Jewish false flag operation have already been circulating for 6 hours now.
That must be a new world record for feeding a Mogwai after midnight with conspiracy theory, letting it metamorphose into a Truther Gremlin, then throw it in a swimming pool to breed.
I swear to god, every fucking asshole hopping up on the soapbox to say how this justifies their own pet theories can get fucked 500 times. Especially the anti-immigration and/or pro gun-manufacturing industry folks.

Aside from the murders, the worst part of this is the black lash that will surely hit the refugees. These poor fucks fled ISIS and now they will pay for the rotten ideology they were fleeing.
I may be two years tardy in rendering this judgment, but time to clean out the paperwork backlog:
I was wrong. Bill Maher is no longer infuriatingly correct 64% of the time and thus worth *just* enough earned rope to not tune out entirely. He's an irredeemable garbage human being with well-earned place atop the trash heap of talking points hate-quackers who won't let dehumanization of no fewer than a quarter of the world's population get in the way of forever reaffirming how fucking right his own world view is and how much bigger a dick it swings than your pansy-ass "conflicted and nuanced ambivalence." He can bring the hookers and Hitchens can bring the booze when they meet in the 7th circle of nothing-in-particular to plot the next un-Crusade Throw him in a vat of saliva collected from Dawkins' acid tongue for all I care. At least then HuffPost will remind people no fewer than 3 times a day that he's made a new rule about how the goggles do nothing.
On the other hand, I've long thought snowboarders shouldn't be allowed into western countries.

I'm writing my chapter on urban disillusionment and the massive migration to suburbia in the 1950s, and the "close our bo[a]rders" argument shares a key common trait. As many critics of suburbia argued, it was, in no small part, a statement that the white middle class had no interest in revitalizing cities, especially as Southern blacks and hispanics were migrating in vast numbers. Rather than figure out both how to live together and solve many infrastructure problems, whites just abandoned the problem and started up new segregated communities outside the cities and let them rot away for decades. The xenophobia over Muslims (or Mexicans in the US) shares a belief that the problem either can't be solved or they plain don't want to solve it if it requires some level of sacrifice or behaviour modification, so, fuck it, let's go for physical separation. Yeah, that'll take care of the problem! The ardent postwar liberal Arthur Schlesinger Jr recognized it as a fundamental conservative response—if it requires changing habits and beliefs, bury your head and pretend the problem doesn't exist (like most intellectuals of the period, he hated suburbia). Living in the modern world, Schlesinger said, meant accepting great complexity and responsibility, to face it head on rather than retreat in fear. Modernity offered much opportunity for individuals, but so much anxiety. Chickening out from a problem was admitting you couldn't hack what the modern world had to offer. Something to consider whenever someone offers a solution that rests on segregation.

I'm honestly amazed at how ignorant Dawkins actually is about the cultural stuff he's been claiming to be an expert about. Just a dumb fucking guy. In the same way, Maher thinks he's funny and he simply never has been. Smug buzzword based superiority isn't the same as jokes.

It really is hard to deny much of the criticism of New Atheism, assuming that you accept guys like Dawkins and Sam Harris are representative. I suppose they give a taste of what it's like for a kind and respectful Christian when people like Pat Robertson or James Dobson rationalize their bigotry thru Christianity.

Never ever funny. I was a fairly regular viewer of Politically Incorrect back in the day because he ran a decent discussion show, but his monologue was always a shit sandwich. He also built up a lot of good will—pissed away many times over by now—for speaking against the dominant White House narrative re. Sept 11.
