That reminds me of an episode of Michael Moore's TV Nation that had a feature about a guy whose application to join a local police force was rejected because his IQ was too high.

I'd imagine like the military, they want people that won't question authority.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 7:16pmThat reminds me of an episode of Michael Moore's TV Nation that had a feature about a guy whose application to join a local police force was rejected because his IQ was too high.

Yes, but is high IQ correlated with questioning authority?Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 4:23pmI'd imagine like the military, they want people that won't question authority.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 7:16pmThat reminds me of an episode of Michael Moore's TV Nation that had a feature about a guy whose application to join a local police force was rejected because his IQ was too high.

No, but I would guess that it's a lot more likely to be the case than the other way around.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 5:50pmYes, but is high IQ correlated with questioning authority?Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 4:23pmI'd imagine like the military, they want people that won't question authority.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 7:16pmThat reminds me of an episode of Michael Moore's TV Nation that had a feature about a guy whose application to join a local police force was rejected because his IQ was too high.

I legit don't know, but I'd suggest that rebelliousness is as rooted in experience and/or genetics as it is in capacity for abstract thought and reasoning.Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 6:46pmNo, but I would guess that it's a lot more likely to be the case than the other way around.Dr.

I totally agree, it just seems that someone with a high IQ is going to be pretty unlikely to just follow orders they don't agree with. Unless it benefits them in some other way, I guess...which is also probably not desirable for any recruiters. It's at least something concrete they can use to thin out the applicants as opposed to something they don't know about like experience or genetics.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 6:57pmI legit don't know, but I'd suggest that rebelliousness is as rooted in experience and/or genetics as it is in capacity for abstract thought and reasoning.Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 6:46pmNo, but I would guess that it's a lot more likely to be the case than the other way around.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 5:50pmYes, but is high IQ correlated with questioning authority?Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 4:23pmI'd imagine like the military, they want people that won't question authority.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 7:16pm

Yeah, I can see that. Not a perfect test, but presumed to be better than nothing, at least for an early means of thinning the pool. There has to be more involved psychiatric testing, too.Kory wrote: ↑13 Jun 2024, 7:07pmI totally agree, it just seems that someone with a high IQ is going to be pretty unlikely to just follow orders they don't agree with. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop

Hello,
The hiring practices of many departments don't appear to be thorough.
