We can laugh and mock, but it speaks to a rejection of fundamental democratic principles that are becoming dogma on the right.
the only hope is probably that the virus will wipe out just enough of these people that they won't be able to have the numbers to enact their fascist plans.

I guess if you believe deep down that the first rule of politics decrees the odds should be stacked in favour of the wealthiest and most powerful, then this is how it would seem to you. What happened in Georgia would have been a particular affront. Half of those people probably shouldn't even be allowed to vote!

Might end up somewhat compensating for the declining birth rate, but that would be something at least.

I guess it's suggestive that they sincerely believed they didn't do anything wrong, morally or criminally. But it's also suggestive that they really had no fucking idea what they were doing, that this was romantic adventurism. Which is to say, a bunch of fucking dupes sold a bag of patriot beans.

My favorite quote from the article:

More of a "Past of the Republican Party" entry. Eisenhower said to a friend of California Senator William Knowland, a frothing and jingoistic anti-Communist: "Knowland has no foreign policy, except to develop high blood pressure whenever he mentions 'Red China.' In his case, there seems to be no final answer to the question, 'How stupid can you get?'"

(Knowland blew his head off in '74, $1M in gambling debt to mobsters.)
