I heard a good joke about Rudy Giuliani today.

I can understand the rationale behind the South seceding in the wake of Lincoln's election—it represented the ascendency of a party that was committed to halting slavery's expansion, so there was an awareness that slavery's days were numbered within the Union—but talk of secession over Biden's election is baffling. Oh no! A corporate liberal not that far from Reagan is president! And gerrymandering gives us a ridiculous advantage beyond our numbers in Congress! It's a tantrum.

We have never seen this level of butt hurt before. In fact, they're so far off of the butt hurt meter that they've broken it. Boo hoo.

It's an assertion that Democrats/liberals are illegitimate, so any election where Republicans don't win is illegitimate. It's a Communist/Nazi mindset, where the principles of free elections are rejected in favour of power by those most deserving.

This op-ed in the NYT nails the point home. It's a long read, but worth it:

Yep—the fear of "king mob" has been baked into American political culture from the start, from African slaves to the working class, and now other offenders like women, the educated, and POC. Appreciating that is valuable to understanding that someone like Mitch McConnell isn't that unusual, only that the threat of so many groups has meant that he has had to be more brutal in his application of exclusionary power.
