Yikes, that ain't good. Have you tried non-medicinal methods like warm milk or a glass of wine before bed to help you relax?

Re: Thread of Dreams
I haven't tried warm milk as I am not a milk drinker. I tend to avoid booze as I've read that it can make sleep problems worse. I was using sleepy tea (with valerian in it) or just straight up valerian, but I think I've reached tolerance. I sometimes use benadryl. I've also used melatonin before but I think that has more to do with sleep cycles than inducing sleep.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:17pmYikes, that ain't good. I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Is it an issue with falling asleep or staying asleep or both?eumaas wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:28pmI haven't tried warm milk as I am not a milk drinker. Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I may pick up some milk to try it out! But I haven't had a glass of milk in over fifteen years.

Re: Thread of Dreams
I can only speak from experience, but since drinking a couple glasses of red wine in the evening, it's relaxed me enough that I fall asleep really easily now.eumaas wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:28pmI haven't tried warm milk as I am not a milk drinker. Worst case, I guess pursue some hard-ass sedative so at least your brain can recover a bit with some decent sleep.

Re: Thread of Dreams
That tends to be my problem. I also suffer from some pretty severe insomnia and though whether it's an issue of falling asleep in the first place or waking up too easily seems to be random. But I often only get about two hours myself.matedog wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 2:50pmHaving a hard time getting your mind to settle down?eumaas wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:54pmMuch more the former than the latter.matedog wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:49pmIs it an issue with falling asleep or staying asleep or both?eumaas wrote: ↑09 Mar 2018, 1:28pmI haven't tried warm milk as I am not a milk drinker. I don't know if it was talking about it here or what, but I quite literally did not sleep last night. I just laid staring at the wall for 7 straight hours. I think I'm going to turn into vapor soon and float away.

How's your drug consumption these days? That could impact your sleep.

Mostly just beer and kratom lately, which usually knock me out. I should have spent the time reading—it would have been a better use of time than trying to sleep.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Mar 2018, 6:47pmHow's your drug consumption these days? That could impact your sleep.

Do you sleep with a window open? Cool fresh air is often helpful. Just spitballin'.Kory wrote: ↑12 Mar 2018, 6:57pmMostly just beer and kratom lately, which usually knock me out. I have allergies that make that nearly impossible. I think I just have to do something that will force my eyes to get tired or something, like my taxes.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Mar 2018, 7:04pmDo you sleep with a window open? Re: Thread of Dreams
When we were in school in NC, the Boss and I were both in a seminar where we had to read Bernard Bailyn's The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution. My adviser, whom B was RAing for, asked what we were reading and we told her. She laughed and said she and her partner kept a copy of that book in the nightstand for insomnia moments. Perhaps not true, but, holy crap, it was infamously boring as fuck.

I had a go at his book the Peopling of British North America. I don't think I lasted sixty pages.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑12 Mar 2018, 7:50pmWhen we were in school in NC, the Boss and I were both in a seminar where we had to read Bernard Bailyn's The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution.
