Wallace, tho, demonstrates how the medium worked. You could hide (in plain sight) critical discourse in light fantasy and sci-fi because it could be dismissed as a silly story. EC Comics showed this very well, encouraging readers to not trust adults and other authority figures, but, hey, they’re just dumb horror comics, so who takes that seriously?
