My honest expectation of the timeline is that the Cubs are being built to start contending in 2014 (as a possible WC, not a division winner). I think they have a chance of flirting with .500 next year at best, but will probably have a losing record.

Have you factored in assassination attempts by representatives of other NL Central clubs? If Sveum had died, Barney and Castro might be in Vietnam at this very moment.
