Just a thought... Why would the GOP pick a fight with the NFL? The NFL fan base is second only to NASCAR in terms of wacko GOP support.
Because the GOP is not even remotely a rational beast and is motivated by attacking anything that is incomplete in its commitment to authoritarianism.
No doubt rhere is a link between the GOP and the NFL fanbase. However they are mainly fans of the institution and "their team". They are less connected to the players themselves particularly the ones "stirring up trouble" who are mainly black who they see as overpaid millionaires and ungrateful of their ability to play a "kids game" and get rich doing it.

It's fascinating (sub-category: morbidly fascinating) that NFL fans are more enraged by fairly modest protests and goofy rules that seem to demand quantum microscopes than the fact that these young men are shortening their lifespans with every play. Maybe there's some kind of connection to politics and capitalism and all that, but I'm not George Will.

To the degree that I care about the Super Bowl, I want it to be Vikings and Bills. Two fanbases that the networks don't care about at all and one of those teams will end up being 0-5.

In the past I've taken a perverse delight in their success, because Bill B. is like a supervillain. But the Trump connections makes it preferable for them to take a painful loss.

You all are just afraid of greatness :shifty:

Obvs Pats first, but if Jax wins next week I can't feel too bad (hungry young team, first time contenders) and same with Minnesota if they make it through the finish line (great franchise, great fanbase). I know Pats are the ultimate villains, but as a fan of that team, from my perspective really only the Stillers were my must-not-wins in this round and they're out, so whatevs.

Obviously, I want Tom to get another ring and further validate all his insane nutritional beliefs.
