I was suffering a bout of insomnia last night—and paying for it today; I'm moving like molasses—so I got up and found The Shining on a movie channel. What struck me was how much I default now to the Simpsons' version when I reference it in my head. Despite how good so much of it looks, I'm always aware that, oh, hey, Jack Nicholson is doing one of his Jack Nicholson characters.

The Simpsons used to be amazing at these kinds of jokes. First you're laughing because Homer is so stupid he thinks the picture is actually Lenny. Then you really start laughing because you realize Homer has an autographed picture of Lenny on his work desk.tepista wrote:

Watched a painfull interview with Terry Hall where the interviewer (who obviously did not know about Terry's mental health problems) kept going on about how he didn't smile. In the end Terry admitted that The Simpsons made him smile
