I'd like to break my moratorium on learning anything for almost four years (it is no coincidence that that time covers all of my doctoral studies and almost all my time in Ottawa) to say that I learned today that the Republican Party supported the Equal Rights Amendment beginning in 1940 (it was in every platform from 1940 up to 1976, then dropped in 1980) and that Eisenhower came out in favour of it in 1958. And then the mouthbreathers planted their flag against it in the mid-70s.
