I'm gonna see the Tarantimo movie in the Cinerama Dome on Sat afternoon. My sis bought tix 3 weeks in advance, that shit is sold the fuck out. Movie may flop, but because of that showing!
Is there any indication that it will do worse than his last few?
I meant to say NOT because of that showing

I love them all, I think I read it was a $90M budget, and I believe you need to nearly double that to break even. Of course, there's international and home vid after that. It's easier when you make Pulp Fiction for $10 or less and it makes its budget back 10x over.
I'm a big fan myself. Do you think he's really going to retire from directing after #10 as promised, or will he Kanye it up?

I hadn't heard that quote. When you're that well known and you only do a project every few years anyway, why announce a retirement? Just take an extended hiatus and do what you want if and when you want to. Seems like something Phil Collins would do.

What's funny about "flops" is an indie darling can cost 3 million, make $50 million and it's a smash. Something like Godzilla costs $100M, makes like $125 and it's a flop. More than twice as many people saw it then the "smash"!

*edit* check those numbers on Godzilla, it cost $170M and made $110.

I saw it last night. He is one of my favorite directors and each new release feels like Christmas morning. This movie does not disappoint and for the first 2 hours and maybe 15 minutes it is the best work he has ever done. The final 30 minutes I'll leave up to the individual viewer because the final scene is divisive. Personally, I like the ending quite a bit. The acting is excellent. DiCaprio and Pitt and Margot Robbie in particular. Some really great interaction between the characters. The look of the film is incredible. I was born in 1977 in Wisconsin - but I completely believed I was looking at 1969 Los Angeles. I don't know if he'll retire after 10 films - I hope not and my gut says that he won't. Movies are his life. I just don't see him walking away from that. Anyway - see this film. It is a wonderfully made homage to the final days of Hollywood's golden era.

The Boss, doing a lazy Sunday, decided to watch Enemy of the State on some channel or other, which I'd never seen. I slowly got sucked in (actually, I tried to leave but she claimed we were "doing a thing" and I had to stay to the end). Okay, I can accept technological magic for the sake of the story. But the movie lost me when I was expected to believe that Will Smith could light a fire in a closet, and not asphyxiate or burn to death in the time that the alarm goes off, the fire trucks go from the station to the hotel, and the firemen make it up however many floors, bust in, and pull him out. And then, like ten minutes later, he's off and sprinting. Fuck off. I did enjoy the stupid ending, tho, where, after all kinds of high tech driving the story, it ends with all the bad guys just shooting each other. No way Will Smith doesn't go down on 20 counts of murder, tho. Also, I liked the cat. I'm glad the cat survived.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019) This is Tarantino's version of the "Buddy" movie, set in the late 1960's hollywood. Dicaprio is an aging actor who senses his career is on the downside and Pitt is his stuntman and loyal friend. Both Pitt and Dicaprio are great in this, and so is Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate. Tarantino loved this era of movies and TV and made sure every scene looked like late 1960's Los Angeles. There are so many good things in this, two I want to mention is when Dicaprio has a flashback to almost getting a starring role in "The Great Escape" and is edited into the classic WW2 film and his conversation with a 12 year old actress while on the set of the tv show "Lancer".
Don't want to write too much about this movie, except this is a film you need to see at a theater, more than once.

The scene with Cliff and Bruce Lee is at least Tarantino top-10...maybe even top-5!!

brilliant, and then Zoe showed up, everyone went nuts. Just to repeat, I was in the sold out Cinerama Dome, 840 people, and every one was as into it as could possibly be.

Oh, my wife thinks the "anyone would go to jail, it's called manslaughter" was borrowed from another movie, but couldn't think of what.

i know, but i took this as Tarantino's " alternate universe" Bruce. He made up for it later, showing the care he took training Sharon for her fight scene in the Wrecking Crew.
Speaking of, When Sharon went to the theater to watch her movie, i loved the joy she had seeing the audience reacting to her performance.
